Using plastic numbers, I placed each number into a different hole and gave her some manipulatives to count into the box with the appropriate number.
COUNTING WITH DISCS.
She had to put the puzzle together then put the correct amount of discs in a line under the number.
COUNTING WITH SPINDLES.
I placed out 10 plastic cups & put the plastic numbers in frint of them, then started her off by placing 1 spindle in the first cup. She quickly got the idea.
COUNTING WITH DOUGH & BUTTONS.
Miss 4.5 cut the number shapes from dough then used buttons to represent the number.
Using dominoes I started some steps on the table and Miss 4.5 developed an interest. An activity sheet is available from www.Montessorimom.com/number-rods/
COUNTING BY 10s from http://www.evan-moor.com/lp/centers/
Count the windows – add another story to the skyscrapper as you go.

I printed this page from http://www.kinderprintables.com & asked Maitlyn to place apple buttons on the dots, count them and then write the number in the apple.
COUNTING IN GROUPS
We sorted all our different boxes of maniupulatives (shells, chicks, teapot buttons, apple buttons, butterfly discs) into groups of 10s, counted by 10s, then coloured in the number on this chart from http://www.enchantedlearning.com according to the colour box they were stored in.
