Space and the planets

Next on Miss 6’s agenda was space and the planets, so lets blast off……

We started by making our own mobile following the instructions from this website http://www.squidoo.com/spacelapbook which was a fantastic link to so many great projects and ideas.

The girls enjoyed looking at each planet on http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/lib/aptree.html to learn something special about each planet and also find its colour so they could paint it the same – they even put the dark hole (wind storm) on Neptune.

They also built this rocket with picture supplied by Nasa http://www.nasa.gov/audience/foreducators/topnav/materials/listbytype/3-2-1.Liftoff.html in the graphics section with along with a fantastic kids program called LIFT OFF..1,2,3.  It will take us all week or more to get through it all with some GREAT experiments.

We are concentrating on the planets in order from the Sun, so we started with Mercury of course, learning this great rhyme from http://www2.scholastic.com/content/collateral_resources/pdf/m/march06_planetrollcall.pdf called “Planet roll call’ as we go helping us to remember the order. It was the most fun way to learn them I could find.

We will continue with this theme on and off over the next few weeks as much as the girls are interested (which they still are at the moment).
